General infos

Idea

Visible Past is a public history project, based on the assumption that through today's dissemination of historical events that marked the 20th century, it is possible to make the past visible, to understand its mistakes and similarities with the present, to understand current issues and to reflect on the importance of the values of tolerance and mutual respect, which are the basis of the European Union.
The project will focus in particular on three historical moments, and their anniversaries, that strongly marked the history of Mediterranean Europe:

  • the fascist period in Italy (80th anniversary of the liberation from Nazi-fascism, 25 April 2025).
  • the colonels' regime in Greece (50th anniversary of the fall of the regime, 24 July 2024),
  • the dictatorial regime known as Estado Novo, established in Portugal by Salazar (50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, 25 April 2024)
